Writing Progress Log : W/E 25th September 2026

We had a good week across both MMS Book 2 and The Bookshop Mysteries 7 - A Ring of Roses.

Our word counts for the week were as follows:

MMS Book 2

We added a prologue to this novel which was 960 words. It’s not a long chapter, but it serves as a scene-setting action sequence before the main novel starts. A bit like the action scene at the start of a Bond movie before the titles play. We then added chapter 7 at 1885 words. Making a total of 2845 words in this book.

The Bookshop Mysteries 7 - A Ring of Roses

We added 3 chapters to this book, 28, 29, and 30, with a combined word count of 4063 words. The story is progressing well, and ideally we want to complete the first draft for the end of October. This book is our current priority with MMS Book 2 serving as the secondary project. This is how we typically word: we have the A project and the B project. Once A Ring of Roses is completed, MMS Book2 will become the A project and take priority with the next Bookshop Mysteries novel becoming the B project. We won’t keep that pace forever, only while we are trying to establish the next series. After a while we will switch to an alternating model of one book at a time.

This week we wrote 6908 words in total, so it was a good week.

We also spent some time designing new ads for our marketing. The ads are not running yet. we’ll do that over the next week.
